Abstract:
In this study, knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of Debre Berhan communities towards
COVID-19 were examined. As COVID-19 pandemic has caused unexpected human health
consequences. Knowledge, Attitude and practice of community of Debre Berhan towards the
transmission and prevention plays vital role for effective control measures. Different measures
have been put in place to prevent its spread among the community. However, for these preventive
measures to be good, the community requires a proper and correct knowledge Attitude and
Practice. The study were conduct to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of the community
of Debre Berhan on COVID-19. Ethiopia declared a state of health emergency and adapted public
health measures that include the mandatory use masks, contact tracing, self-isolation or quantine,
closure of workshop spacing the prohibition of gatherings. In this study, a community -based
cross-sectional survey was conducted from May 5 to May 15 2021 during which 486 participants
involved. Data analysis was done by using STATA 14.2 and SPSS VERSION20.In this study ordinal
logistic regression were applied for knowledge and attitude separately and also partial
proportional model were applied for practice. This finding showed that Majority (36.09%) of the
study participants reported correctly that people who have contact with someone infected with
COVID-19 virus should be immediately isolated in a proper place (self-quarantine or hospital
quarantine) and only 31.33% of the participants accepts the vaccine for COVID-19 if it is
available. Debre Berhan community had a good overall knowledge, attitude and practice.
However there is still gap of knowledge, attitude and practice among educational level, age,
occupation and education. The results of this study will important to inform future efforts focusing
on societal readiness to comply with pandemic control measures.
